Makes Me Smile

Chicken Coop is complete. Makes me smile!! Thank you Brother for building me a wonderful home for our future egg layers.

My blooming yard makes me smile.

Bells, Zucchini, Strawberries, and Lemon Cucumbers are ready for picking:)
Didn't know that the 5 inch tomato worm was a "bad guy". I was taking pictures of him for a half hour thinking he was a gigantic catapillar... oops:)
All things growing in the garden make me smile.

First Zucchini!!

I gave my prize zucchini's to Kade so that I could photograph them and he said, "no Mom, they are yours, how about I take a picture of you with your zucchini's!" So, he and Kuper both and their turn to snap a few shots. The above was taken by Kade and below by Kuper.
Good job boys:)
Baby wants to eat them oh-so very badly!
I had another mystery plant this year and it turns out that I am growing potatoes! They must have sprouted from the compost. How fun!!

Summer Blooms

My Glamini and Dahlia's have finally bloomed!

Garden Boy

Kruz wasn't ready for sleep tonight so he helped me water the garden.
Since he wants to eat everything these days, I couldn't leave him for a second... hence my slanted picture on the left:) Had to do a quick shot so that he would not attack the dirt!

Our Little Garden
Kruz was helping himself to some cilantro tonight.
The Front Yard is finally looking good:)

Baker Creek Catalog

Just got my 2010 Baker Creek catalog in today!
Wow!! I was sooo impressed and couldn't believe how cool it was.  It was a pleasant surprise for sure. For anyone who is thinking of starting a garden or is already a gardener, you HAVE to check them out. I would really love to visit their store in Petaluma. Hmmm... may have to plan a trip to visit my good friend and do a little shopping:)

Kruzee... are you tired Son?
How cute is he? Mama's handsome guy:)

Little Farmer

Kuper is my little farmer.
We're trying vegetables from seed this year and so far it's going well.
My little farmer is tending to his watermelon, onion, bell peppers, and hot peppers.

Choosing to sing "Little Bunny Foo Foo" from the song book. He likes to "bop 'em on the head"!

Digging For Worms

Family work day in the garden was so much fun!
I finally wheeled away the "old" to make a clean garden slate. Can't wait for Spring!! I have a better idea of what we'll be planting and how much.
This year, being our first to have the garden was a wonderful experience with the boys- we're gardeners for life now:)
Favorite part of gardening... worms!!

Koops has great work ethic. He's good with a shovel and does not stop until the job is done!
Both boys were happy to get their hands dirty again, digging for worms. It's been awhile since they saw their worm friends.

Refreshment!

Sounds a little crazy, but I miss the dirt. I miss composting and gardening and getting my hands into the earth. "Hibernation" is wearing on me so I decided to get out of the house and into the back yard that I miss so badly.

I've also been neglecting the sewing machine so this morning I made this compost cover. Koops was my assistant (that's always interesting:) My best friend, Melissa, made one of these as a birthday gift last year and I love it.

To breathe fresh, winter air is refreshing!
To create even just a little something makes me smile!

Back To Reality

We got back to business today with chores around the house. In the middle of the day, this happened... The helicopters were taking water from our friends pond up the road. I think they dumped 4 "buckets". The Boreaids (sp?) were flying around but luckily didn't drop. That would have been nasty.
The fire ruined a home and spread halfway up the hill toward another in about 10 minutes.
We could see the flames from our street- very scary!! Luckily the fire crews responded quickly and no more damage was done.
On to less depressing Friday news:-)
We worked in the yard a little, had popsicles on the front patio and tended the garden.
It's rewarding to watch the front yard grow.
We've had butterflies on the purple flowering plants which is great for the boys. They are easily entertained by wildlife.

Kicking Back

This is our third round of Anaheim's
One of our two plants usually has 10-12 at a time

Checking out the tomatoes

Our one and only watermelon is about the size of a lime- it's so cute!

Our Edamame is just about ready!

Cheesy!!!

Favorite Things

Here are a few of our favorite things.
Poppies in the front yard, planted from seed by the boys this Spring.
Edamame!

We just saw the pods for the first time tonight!

Very exciting to see them growing so well. Yay:-) !
